Caitlin Durante, Jamie Loftus, and I talk about my book Judas & Suicide as well as the 2008 film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It is a movie written and directed by the same person who wrote the book, Stephen Chbosky, about young people navigating mental health, sexual violence, and suicide in high school.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film that still sticks with me. I read the book and watched this movie in high school and felt seen and heard in my suicidality at the time. The movie has its flaws, especially for its lack of diversity and dated views on people of marginalized genders, but it's still one that matters to me.
