Ashley Ayer, Britney Brinson, and I talk about my book Judas & Suicide as well as the 2008 film The Secret Life of Bees. It is a movie based on the book by Sue Monk Kidd that is really important to me.
The Secret Life of Bees is one of the first films I have seen display a suicide amongst Black community take place, and how they respond in a way that is constructive and real. The movie has its flaws, sure, but it's still one that's close to my heart.
