What's At YOUR Pity Party?

Since January of this year, I've been able to experiment more with the concept of a "pity party" as a writing prompt, as a workshop series, and even as an installation through The Circular Series to bring the pity party I wrote to life.

I especially appreciate working with fourth graders. They're old enough to have already experience loss, but still young enough to make room for their imaginations to stretch and remind adults of the necessity of imagination as the key to liberation in our lives of grief.

I'll be working with young people in July through Royal River Community Players in this workshop series that you can find here. And you can reach out to me through my booking tab on how to bring this to your space.

We all have something to express pity about. We all have something to grieve about. I'm very pro-pity parties for these exact reasons.

I love this idea of embracing the “pity party” as a space for expression and healing—sometimes we all need that moment to just feel and process. It’s inspiring to hear how you’re working with kids to use imagination as a way to navigate grief. On a lighter note, whenever I’m having one of those days, I find throwing on my Pelle Pelle soda club jacket somehow lifts my spirits. There’s something about that bold, classic style that makes me feel ready to face whatever comes next.
